Most of the code books can be found in the library for reference or can be purchased at a large bookstore or ordered from the International Code Council.
The Unified Development Code has that information. Contact a Planner in the Planning Division at (972) 721-2424.
The city is allocated six plan examiners.
Energy compliance for commercial buildings and new single-family dwellings can be more easily determined by downloading and using free software (ComCheck) available at Energy Codes website for commercial buildings and on the International Code Compliance Calculator (IC3) website for residential buildings. An IC3 certificate is required for residential and a ComCheck is required for commercial projects. Be sure to select the 2021 edition of the International Energy Conservation Code.
Residential permits (new houses, remodels, driveways, sheds, etc.) take about three business days. New townhouses are reviewed in six business days.
Platting and zoning. If you are adding a building to a property, please check with a planner in the Planning Division at (972) 721-2424 to ensure the property is platted and zoned for the intended use. Those two things can delay a permit for at least two months.
It is better to wait until the plat and/or zoning case is scheduled for public hearing because the turnaround time for plan review is only six days for commercial and townhouses and three days for residential.
