1. What are the requirements to sign up for the CERT Basic Training?

In order to participate in our CERT Basic Training Course, an individual must:

Be at least eighteen (18) years old
Possess a valid driver's license/passport
Be able to perform physical activities
Pass a background investigation
Live or work within the City of Irving

2. What is covered in the Basic Training CERT class?

Unit 1: Disaster Preparedness
Unit 2: Fire Safety
Unit 3: Disaster Medical Operations--Part 1
Unit 4: Disaster Medical Operations--Part 2
Unit 5: Light Search and Rescue Operations
Unit 6: CERT Organization
Unit 7: Disaster Psychology
Unit 8: Disaster Exercise

The classes are held on two consecutive Saturdays from (8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.).

3. How is Irving's CERT program organized?

Currently the City of Irving CERT is set up with one large team and team leads who have taken additional training.

4. Once completing the training, are there any additional sessions I could take?

Refresher training sessions are offered to our CERT members throughout the year. These can cover a multitude of subjects including things such as weather, emergency preparedness animal safety, CPR and first aid, disaster medical, search and rescue, and the incident command system.
