1. What is the Irving 360° Civic Academy?

A free program created and organized by the City of Irving to educate residents and members of the business community about city government.

2. Why was the academy created?

It is designed to encourage engagement and help to create a collaborative and inclusive government. It is also to provide participants an inside look at city government and can provide residents the education and skills necessary to serve on the city’s boards and commissions or to volunteer on future city committees.

3. Who can participate in the program?

The program is currently held once each year and is open to those who live or work within Irving’s city limits. Participants must be at least 18 years old.

4. When is the academy held?

The program consists of 11 consecutive sessions generally on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., beginning in September and ending in November. Dinner will be served at each session.

5. Is there a dress code?

The sessions are informal. The city will provide each participant with a polo-style shirt that may be worn. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and pants, as there will be tours and interactive exercises.

6. Where are the sessions held?

The sessions will be held at various City of Irving facilities. Information on the sessions, including a detailed agenda, will be provided in a participant’s acceptance letter.

7. May I bring a guest to these activities?

Because of space limitations, participants cannot bring guests to the sessions. 

8. What do I do if I need to miss a class?

Participants can miss up to two of the 11 sessions and graduate. They are strongly encouraged to attend the graduation ceremony.

9. What do I do after I complete this class and graduate?

The City of Irving encourages any graduates to apply for open positions on advisory boards, planning committees or civic organizations’ boards and committees (as eligible).
