Open to all females ages 12 and older living, working or visiting the DFW area, the focus of the RAD class is realistic self-defense techniques. The course begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, and then progresses to the basics of hands-on self-defense training.
RAD is designed to engage participants in a series of hands-on, realistic, self-defense tactics and reinforce the power of the voice. Keep in mind this is a very physical class, and it can be strenuous.
The course is taught by Irving police and detention officers who are nationally certified RAD instructors. Class size is limited, and registration is required.

Rainwater is the best water for your lawn, landscape or vegetable garden. Divert it. Save it. Use it!
Come learn the basics and benefits of rainwater harvesting and reduce the effect storm water has on the environment. Participants will learn how to collect and utilize rainwater at home. This class is hands-on “DIY,” where each participant will build and take home a 55-gallon rain barrel. Rain barrels are recycled food-grade containers and are roughly 24” wide by 36” tall.
Cost per participant is $50 and includes a recycled food-grade rain barrel. Registration is required.

The program is custom-designed to children with special needs, ages 18 and younger. AquaStars participants must be accompanied by an adult or guardian. On a monthly basis, AquaStars provides special needs children with an opportunity to sidestep crowds and experience the excitement of play in an indoor, 20-yard, temperature-controlled lap pool. Best of all, participants will only pay the standard admission rate.
The safety of AquaStars guests is paramount to program organizers. The Heritage Aquatic Center’s pool boasts features including an accessible ramp, accessible chair lift and water chair, making it an ideal location to pilot the AquaStars program. The city will provide the appropriate lifeguard and staffing ratios, as well as access to waterproof wheelchairs.
