City recreation centers will offer two sessions of winter break camp for children in grades K-5. A variety of activities will be offered including arts and crafts, gym games and field trips. Campers are asked to bring a sack lunch each day. Morning and afternoon snacks will be provided. Camp hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Register in person at your neighborhood recreation center or online at https://apm.activecommunities.com/irvingrec.

Enjoy a day of relaxation while painting your own piece of pottery to take home. Prices vary by piece and can be purchased the day of event. For ages 5 and older. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Irving seniors are invited to get “All Shook Up” at this rockin’ party celebrating the birthday of Elvis Presley. Enjoy a live performance by an Elvis impersonator, music, cake and lots of fun. Registration deadline is Jan. 4. Cost: $5 for Heritage members; $8 for non-members.

Teens ages 13-17 can compete against friends and foes in a double elimination PS4 Basketball contest. Entry fee is $2 per person. Register by Jan. 4.

Come enjoy a day of scrapbooking and meet others who enjoy this fun hobby. You will make new friends and leave with a book of memories. For ages 18 and older. Two sessions are available. Session I: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. ($10 fee) or Session II: 4 to 8 p.m. ($7 fee). Registration deadline is Jan. 9.

Start the New Year off by taking pictures with your friends and creating new memories. Build a mini photo book, key chain or simply take the photos home. Complimentary food and drinks will be provided. For middle school and high school students. Free admission with valid IPAR ID card or school ID.
January 13, 2019, 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM @ Heritage Aquatic Center
The program is custom-designed to children with special needs, ages 18 and younger. AquaStars participants must be accompanied by an adult or guardian. On a monthly basis, AquaStars provides special needs children with an opportunity to sidestep crowds and experience the excitement of play in an indoor, 20-yard, temperature-controlled lap pool. Best of all, participants will only pay the standard admission rate.
The safety of AquaStars guests is paramount to program organizers. The Heritage Aquatic Center’s pool boasts features including an accessible ramp, accessible chair lift and water chair, making it an ideal location to pilot the AquaStars program. The city will provide the appropriate lifeguard and staffing ratios, as well as access to waterproof wheelchairs.

Families are invited to compete against each other in easy minute to win it games. Pizza and drinks will be provided, and participants will have a chance to win prizes and awards. For ages 6 and older. Cost is $5 person. Registration deadline is Jan. 10.

Celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at this free spaghetti luncheon provided by the Irving-Carrollton chapter of the NAACP. In addition to the luncheon, attendees will also hear from special guest speakers. All are welcome.

Explore the nighttime world of animals of Campion Trail with native species experts and learn more about the sights, smells and sounds of nature at night. Night hikers are invited to challenge their skills in spotting signs of animal life and sharpening other senses. Learn more about the kinds of animals that call Irving home.
Registration is required for all participants.
* Restrictions: The hikes are limited to children ages 5 years and older. Strollers and pets are not allowed. Other opportunities are being planned for children ages 5 years and younger.
January 26, 2019, All Day @ Cimarron Park
Winters in Texas can mean anything from cold rain to black ice, but rarely include the fluffy white snow seen up north. This year, bring the family to Cimarron Park for a taste of the fun side of winter!
Frost Fest is a free winter festival offering an opportunity to indulge in various cold weather activities. Play in the snow area and slide down the hill. The entertainment continues with snow dance parties, winter story readings and our own version of the Polar Express train.
Food vendors will be on-site; parking and admission are free. Event parking is at Ranchview High School, 8401 E. Valley Ranch Parkway. Complimentary ADA accessible shuttle service is provided.
