Animal Services

  1. Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month: Big Dogs Adoption Event

    October 1, 2019 - October 31, 2019 @ Adoption Kennels

    In honor of Adopt a Shelter Dog month, Irving Animal Services is offering all large dogs - 40 pounds and larger - for a discounted adoption fee of only $10 for the entire month of October. Normally, the adoption fees range from $70 to $100.

    Adopters must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid form of identification.

    Animals being adopted will be:
    • Up-to-date on vaccinations, including rabies if the animal is over four months of age.
    • Spayed or neutered or $50 voucher towards spay / neuter (depending on surgery availability).
    • Given a general dewormer and flea prevention .
    • Microchipped and registered with 24PetWatch.
    • Heartworm tested (dogs over six months of age).

    Adopt your own homecoming queen and king during Irving Animal Services “Homecoming Week” Oct. 15-19.

    All adoptable animals 1 year and older at the Irving Animal Care Campus (IACC) will have their adoption fee waived.

    Animals being adopted will be:

    • Up-to-date on vaccinations, including rabies if the animal is more than four months of age
    • Spayed or neutered
    • Given a general dewormer and treated for fleas and ticks
    • Microchipped and registered with 24PetWatch
    • Heartworm tested (dogs over 6 months of age)
    • FeLV / FIV tested (cats over 6 months of age)

AquaStars

  1. AquaStars Swim Program

    October 13, 2019, 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM @ Heritage Aquatic Center

    AquaStars provides special needs children with an opportunity to sidestep crowds and experience the excitement of play in an indoor, 20-yard, temperature-controlled lap pool. The Heritage Aquatic Center’s ammenities include an accessible ramp, accessible chair lift and water chair, making it an ideal location for the AquaStars program. The city will provide the appropriate lifeguard and staffing ratios, as well as access to waterproof wheelchairs. The program is custom-designed to children with special needs, ages 18 and younger. Aquatics

  1. Red Cross Lifeguard Class

    October 11, 2019 - October 13, 2019 @ North Lake Natatorium

    Want to learn skills that will help you save lives? Become a certified lifeguard.

    Prerequisite: Minimum age 15. Successful skills test, which includes 300-yard continuous swim; a 10-pound brick retrieval from 7 to 10 feet depth of water followed by a 20-yard return carrying the brick; and treading water for two minutes without using hands. Test must be completed one week before class or must have instructor approval.

    Successful completion of the course will result in American Red Cross Life Guard/First Aid, CPR-Professional Rescuer, and AED certifications.

    In the Japanese culture, the tradition of the Toro Nagashi ceremony floats lit lanterns on the water in remembrance of those who have suffered atrocities.

    In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the City of Irving Family Advocacy Center (FAC) will conduct a similar ceremony of remembrance for victims and survivors of domestic violence Oct. 15 on the Mandalay Canal. This event is free and open to the general public.

    Participants will enjoy food, artwork, children’s activities and music. In addition, participants can personalize a water lantern in honor of a victim or survivor that will be released on the canal at the conclusion of the ceremony.
