  1. Red Cross Lifeguard Class

    North Lake Aquatic Center

    Want to learn skills that will help you save lives? Become a certified lifeguard.

    Prerequisite: Minimum age 15. Successful skills test, which includes 300-yard continuous swim; a 10-pound brick retrieval from 7 to 10 feet depth of water followed by a 20-yard return carrying the brick; and treading water for two minutes without using hands. Test must be completed one week before class or must have instructor approval.

    Successful completion of the course will result in American Red Cross Life Guard/First Aid, CPR-Professional Rescuer, and AED certifications.

  2. Smithsonian Museum Day Live and Carolyn Dee Flores Visit, Workshop

    In conjunction with Irving Library’s Big Read program and Smithsonian Museum Day Live, Carolyn Dee Flores will lead an educational workshop in which she teaches children of all ages about the art of storytelling and illustration. Carolyn Dee Flores has illustrated seven books for children including most recently the bilingual picture book "A Surprise for Teresita" / "Una Sorpresa para Teresita." She is the recipient of The Skipping Stones 2014 Award for Excellence in Multicultural Literature.

  1. Teen Jam - Meltdown Action Game

    Come challenge your friends to compete on the Meltdown Action Game, where you have to be skilled enough to duck underneath or jump over the foam boom. Don't get knocked off and survive to stay in the game! In addition, staff will hold a dance competition, so no turning down. Join us for the fun, food and prizes throughout the night! Admission is free for middle school and high school students (grades 6-12). Complimentary food and sodas are provided.
