Irving residents have the opportunity to drop off pharmaceutical medications for proper disposal as part of the National Take Back initiative. The program is a partnership between the Irving Police Department, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and other participating law enforcement agencies. It provides an opportunity for the public to surrender expired, unwanted or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications to law enforcement officers for destruction at a safe collection site. Controlled, noncontrolled and over-the-counter medications will be collected from individuals. Intravenous solutions, injectable medications and syringes will not be accepted, due to potential hazards posed by blood-borne pathogens.
