  1. Clear the Shelters Day

    Irving residents should mark their calendars and clear their schedules for Aug. 18 - Clear the Shelters day. Irving Animal Services will team with NBC5, Telemundo 39 and NBCUniversal, along with shelters across North Texas and the rest of the country, for a national adoption event that helped more than 70,000 animals find homes in 2017.

    Organizers hope residents will join the effort to make the 2018 event even bigger and better.

  1. Red Cross Lifeguard Class

    August 16, 2018, 8:00 AM - August 18, 2018, 6:30 PM @ North Lake Natatorium

    Want to learn skills that will help you save lives? Become a certified lifeguard.

    Prerequisite: Minimum age 15. Successful skills test, which includes 300-yard continuous swim; a 10-pound brick retrieval from 7 to 10 feet depth of water followed by a 20-yard return carrying the brick; and treading water for two minutes without using hands. Test must be completed one week before class or must have instructor approval.

    Successful completion of the course will result in American Red Cross Life Guard/First Aid, CPR-Professional Rescuer, and AED certifications.

  1. The Mother Road Revisited: Route 66 Then and Now

    July 7, 2018 - September 2, 2018 @ Carpenter Hall Lobby

    The exhibition aims to explore the idea of travel and American culture through interactive photography. Vernacular photographs taken in the 1950s and ‘60s are featured and paired with contemporary photographs Natalie Slater shot along the modern day Route 66, from the same locations and vantage points. The images are backlit and overlaid inside interactive light boxes to create a unique road trip experience, with a view towards both past and present. Gallery Hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mon., Tues., Wed. and Fri. 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thur. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sat. 1 to 5 p.m. Sun.

  2. 18th Annual Art Connection Members’ Show

    Two- and three-dimensional artworks by artists of all ages. Prizes are presented in three categories: Youth, Nonprofessional and Professional with an overall “Best of Show” prize also awarded. In celebration of the iconic Route 66, participating members have been invited to create artwork that explores the sights and history along America’s great Mother Road and/or the theme of road trips and summer vacations.
