City of Irving Events

  1. Public Input Budget Hearing

    Planning for the city’s 2019-20 fiscal year budget is underway. Residents have the opportunity to provide input on the budget at this public hearing. Comments can be made to the City Council on any aspect of the budget including property tax rates, fees, programs and services.

    A public input session is scheduled June 20. Two additional hearings will be held to comment on the proposed budget following the budget retreat in August. Adoption of the budget is scheduled for Sept. 19.

    The city’s budget year runs from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30. Call the City Secretary’s Office at (972) 721-2493 to confirm hearing dates.

    June is Adopt-a-Cat Month at the Irving Animal Care Campus, 4140 Valley View Lane. Adoption fees for cats 1 year and older are waived during June, and kittens are available for a $50 adoption fee. Vaccinations, spay/neuter, leukemia test and microchip included with all cat adoptions.

    All adoptions must be processed 30 minutes before closing.

    During the event, Irving aquatics professionals will educate participants on how to be safe in and around water, and present basic swimming skills in a fun, enjoyable atmosphere.

  1. CLASS FULL: Girls' Summer Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) Class

    Open to all females ages 12 to 19 years living, working or visiting the DFW area, the focus of the RAD class is realistic self-defense techniques. The course begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, and then progresses to the basics of hands-on self-defense training.

    RAD is designed to engage participants in a series of hands-on, realistic, self-defense tactics and reinforce the power of the voice. Keep in mind this is a very physical class, and it can be strenuous.

    The course is taught by Irving police and detention officers who are nationally certified RAD instructors. Class size is limited, and registration is required.
