Ask the Budget Guy: FY2012-13
Show All Answers
1.
Does the proposed FY 2012-13 budget include the phasing in of four-man crews for the Irving Fire Department?
Thank you for your question regarding the FY 2012 -2013 budget. The Fire Department currently has two fire stations operating with four-man crews. Station 1 is the only single company house in Irving, accordingly we have four personnel assigned. Station 8 is a two-company house with hazardous material responsibilities that require additional personnel when dispatched to an incident.
The proposed budget does not include the phasing in of four-man crews for the Irving Fire Department. Currently, it is common for Fire Dispatch to send one ambulance, three engines, two trucks, one EMS Supervisor and one Chief Officer to a structure fire call. There are a minimum of 19 fire personnel on scene for these emergencies.
There continues to be ongoing dialogue regarding this topic; however, at this time four-person crews have not been included in the FY 2012 -2013 budget.
The Fire Department continues to provide excellent customer service and promotes safety for our residents.
